Apple Enhances Vision Pro Experience with visionOS 2.2 Update
visionOS 2.2 adds Wide and Ultrawide Mac Virtual Display modes, higher resolution and headset audio for Apple Vision Pro, arriving in December.

Apple is set to release visionOS 2.2 in December, bringing significant enhancements to the Vision Pro headset's Mac Virtual Display feature. This update introduces four key improvements:
Wide and Ultrawide Display Settings: Users can now choose between new Wide and Ultrawide display options, offering expanded virtual workspace configurations.
Enhanced Screen Resolution: The update delivers higher screen resolution, resulting in increased visual clarity for a more immersive experience.
Integrated Audio Playback: Audio will now play directly from the Vision Pro headset, eliminating the need for external Mac speakers and streamlining the user experience.
These advancements aim to elevate the functionality and user satisfaction of the Vision Pro, particularly for those utilizing the Mac Virtual Display feature. The visionOS 2.2 update is anticipated to be available in mid-December.
According to Apple's support documentation, the Wide setting corresponds to a 21:9 display and Ultrawide to 32:9, which Apple describes as the equivalent of two 5K monitors side by side. Both modes require a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later alongside visionOS 2.2, and Mac Virtual Display can route the Mac's audio to the headset so sound follows the wearer rather than the desk.
For Vision Pro owners who bought the headset as a portable workstation, the change matters more than the version number suggests: the original Mac Virtual Display offered a single 4K-class window, so a wider curved canvas is the first time the feature approaches the desk space of a multi-monitor setup.
